Prior to receiving my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, I received a BA in anthropology from Dartmouth College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I discovered in a class titled, “The Anthropology of Health and Illness,” that rarely is any disease confined to the physical body or the psyche alone. Rather, the experience of health and dis-ease is a complex interplay of social, economic, psychological, and physical factors.
Having a particular interest in Lyme disease and associated infections, I have studied the work of many leading experts in Lyme diagnosis and treatment, including Dr. Klinghardt, MD; Dr. Horowitz, MD; Dr. Ross, MD; and Dr. Burrascano, MD. I continue to stay up to date with current research, by attending International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) conferences and other related conferences throughout the year.
My particular medical interests include: Lyme disease, men’s health, gastrointestinal health, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, anxiety and depression, and female hormone balancing. I have pursued additional training in these areas through ILADS, the Institute of Functional Medicine, and A4M.
Attaining health is a process, and I strive to provide proven solutions while supporting and empowering you along the way. I work with each patient’s desires, beliefs, and values to develop a treatment and management approach that works.

June 16, 2020 at 3:32 pmI owe my health and sanity to Dr. Aguiar. For five years I experienced a variety of symptoms and saw multiple drs/had test after test after test/tried many supplements, etc. No one could diagnose these very real symptoms I was experiencing, and I felt crazy as if I was making how I felt up and hopeless that I would ever be “myself” again. A friend recommended Dr. Aguiar to me. I was hesitant to get started with yet another dr but I am so glad that I did. He truly listened to me without any lens or personal agenda clouding his ability to diagnose — a rare quality in practitioners. After finally getting to the bottom of my symptoms and receiving a diagnosis, Dr. Aguiar worked WITH me to determine a treatment plan that was both effective and suited my personal needs and lifestyle. Thanks to him, I am on the road to good health!

June 25, 2020 at 6:09 pmI had been to numerous practitioners for my SIBO diagnosis before I found Dr Aguiar…naturopaths, functional medicine doctors, nutritionist, GI doctors. No one could help me.
I felt defeated and hopeless. I was in constant pain…bloated, exhausted and depressed. Dr. Aguiar spent 2.5 hours with me discussing my history and established a plan for me. He made me feel safe, validated and his optimism was like nothing I had experienced with any other practitioner.
I knew I had found the match for me. Never giving up on me. Always willing to find answers to my complex illness and underlying conditions. A true team player, reassuring and a down right brilliant doctor.
Today I have come full circle to gain my health back because of Dr. Aguiar. I will forever be grateful.
